Small'n'nice bits. Getting momentum and form.

Published: Sunday, 25 June 2023

The better days, that's how I would name this period. Just because of very single reason being on table, i.e. when you look at something and feel you've got one more part of that puzzle set in place. Once you have couple of them this becomes gripping hence enforcing yourself to get more. That's a core principle currently how this thing moves on wards. I know you're are not part of it and sometimes it might be hard to relate, so I'll put a list you could follow up.

Keep burning hours: fuel, suspension and all around

Published: Tuesday, 01 February 2022

So my life goes in garage where I continuously keep designing things. Or in others words dealing with circumstances in case something does not fit, which to be honest is almost a constant.
It happens so because everything I fit in this car it actually have not been there and probably shouldn't but then again.. hold my beer...

Burning hours on small things - cooling

Published: Saturday, 27 November 2021

You probably heard saying "Evil is in details" which is largely true and I would say this is completely true in perspective of time. Initially I faced how hours were burning massively on a shell restoration and now.. once engine is assembled fabrication of things around it are even more demanding.

Install of safety roll cage - full spec

Published: Thursday, 11 March 2021

Let's talk about safety :D Long time ago when this project has started it did not have crystal clear vision what it could turn into. At least there's one idea I was more than sure it will be accomplished and that is safety roll cage. I could not imagine how may you use this weak mk2 shell loaded with 7 times more power than it was designed for when left factory line, not talking about safety in case of accident.

Engine inspection and some of renewal - 12v VR6

Published: Monday, 28 December 2020

The car has gone to have roll cage installed but on this little bit later. Meanwhile I decided to have my hands on engine. As you know at the begging of this very long project intention was to swap it with 24V version. At the moment things have turned out differently and 12v version will be used instead. Don't ask why.. To start with I needed an engine transplant. For my needs it was enough to get any AAA 12v engine with out gearbox, no loom just a bare engine. So the cheapest VR6 found on ads will do the job!

Welding, assembling and bit of designing

Published: Sunday, 20 December 2020

Body parts restoration and engine trial fit

Published: Monday, 19 November 2018

Again some time has passed by and some of the progress was achieved. To be honest I left this blog a little bit abandoned. If you look at previous post of this build I left car standing on it's own wheels and started to work on removable body parts like doors, front bonnet, rear trunk lid, front wings and lower front panel at the same not limiting myself from restoring solid parts like rear arches. To get back to removable parts they were sourced in quite good condition which means only small fixes are required before priming and putting on car. So lets take a look on a progress!

Haldex fabrication. Collecting, modifying and restoring parts

Published: Saturday, 18 November 2017

One day I just looked at my Haldex conversion project standing in my yard for... almost two years. Since then body was left to stand so and not touched during this period.

However in other aspects it was progressing albeit slowly but consistently. Before leaving it to stand and eventually get to top in my own priority list it had seam sealant added on stitching places as those are welded and weaker against corrosion. I did not want to leave these bare for all the seasons outside.

Cut. Weld. Sleep. Part #2

Published: Friday, 08 May 2015

Quite a long period of time is behind since last topic posted. Previously I did show some of initial progress on shell restoration where I cut out sideskirts and welded in new ones. Removed interior sound deadening, unnecessary brackets, started shell stitiching to improve it's stiffness.

Cut. Weld. Sleep. Part #1

Published: Monday, 21 April 2014

Hello,

As you remember (or not) in earlier topic I did show you few engine pics and bodykit teaser. You probably have noticed that in these pics shell's almost plain as car's disassembled now. After inspection it's time to take actions and get body to mint condition as there are some issues which interfere with word "mint".

Closer inspection on Syncro golf

Published: Friday, 21 March 2014

Hi all Golf enthusiasts,

This topic is aimed to look what did I find buying this golf. I'm starting to disassemble it bit by a bit. It's necessary to disassemble till plain shell as it's going to receive full additional shell stitching because it's well known issue for all mk2 Golfs. They all had a twisting body. When it got away from factory line it was such as I told, but after usage for almost 30 years it got even worse. It's possible to solve that and as an advantage I will have still very light weight car. That's a fact mk2's are known for also. Furthermore car will have interior repainted in Porsche Carrara white colour. As much white as a white can be. To reduce weight all brackets, rails, podiums needs to be removed as it won't have any function in it's upcoming way of existence. That's right this Syncro will be track spec car, but sadly road illegal (probably). It would be fun to kill some... faster cars. But long pathway ahead to try that.

Welcome a newcomer - challenges ahead!

Published: Friday, 14 March 2014

2013 year. Deep blue 20vT is built (but still receiving minor upgrades) and appears on public roads starting in late spring and ending in late autumn. It was very important project to me in many aspects. But time passes by and you can't stand in the same place for all time. This newly brought car I hope will grant to me some more progress I can make. So, welcome a 1986 Golf mk2 8v Syncro.
